Hi all,
I’m marinating on a conversation I had a few weeks ago with my friend and fellow restaurant owner/bev director/industry lifer, Ryan Lotz. I’ll be writing deeply about it in the next newsletter (my “creative process” is spiraling on a subject for weeks/months until it feels like I’ll have to crawl out of my skin if I don’t get typing); it’s about the intersection of art, craft and commodity in hospitality spaces—and the ways in which guest/consumer engagement with that trifecta has tipped dramatically toward commodity in recent years. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, this is a quick one highlighting some upcoming parties we’re throwing! We’d love to see you.
SUMMER @ DEAR ANNIE
Before we get into it, a note that we’ve moved into summer hours over at Dear Annie; we’re now closed on Mondays (so open Weds-Sun). We’re also offering supper hours on Sundays from 2-8 with our full menu available! A great post-Cape post-Acadia post-Winnipesaukee opportunity to get off 93 and head right over for a meal before you have to unpack the car. Extend those summer weekend vibes just a few hours longer with us. AND starting next week, we’ll also be offering the Sea Dog on Sundays only! Sea Dog Sundays! Alliterative! Delicious! So either get your Sea Dogs this week or get them on Sundays.
We have some exciting things brewing over at Dear Annie that we’ll be announcing at the end of the month, along with a special offering for newsletter subscribers. My hope is to help make the end of summer (and beyond) easier and more delicious for you. More to come.
TUESDAY 7/15: TXAKOLI FEST @ REBEL REBEL
It’s the return of TXAKOLI FEST, an all-out banger celebrating the BEST OF THE BASQUE. Featuring our pals at De Maison Selections on the porròn, Island Creek Oysters on the raw bar + none other than celebrity DJ youknowevan on the 🎧 🎶. Tix are just $5 and include your first porròn pour. Oysters + giveaways with the De Maison folks from 5-8PM! Wine + party all night. Will there be a porròn contest from the second-floor balcony? GET YOUR TIX TO FIND OUT (there will be).
DISCLAIMER: Not all of these wines are the most natural wines ever made; however, the Basque has an important and unique heritage wine culture, and it’s good to celebrate it. Just covering my bases here before the natty bros come for me. Let it be known that I am not a dogmatist!
SATURDAY 7/19: RADISHES & ROSÉ @ WILD CHILD
Join us for an afternoon fête celebrating the simplest summer pleasures: cold rosé, good bread, salty butter, and that harbinger of farmer’s market delights—the humble radish. We’ll have 15+ rosés open for tasting, plus a heap of fresh radishes from the Union Square Farmer’s Market, a pile of butter, and fresh baked bread by Sunshine Bakes. You can preorder loaves via their website (and you should). Pop over after your visit to the farmer’s market and hang with us, no tix required.
Check out the rest of our events here! Our makgeolli intensive with Alice of Hana Makgeolli is almost sold out! I took a little hiatus from teaching for a few weeks, but I’ll get some new classes up next week; if you have class topic desires, please comment and let me know!
XOXO,
L
