Hello, friends!
Rebel Rebel is turning SEVEN. I’m having some difficulty writing about this today, and I’m not sure why; ultimately, I think it’s because there really is a lot to say about this tiny bar, and I’m someone who struggles a little (a lot) with sentimentality. I don’t particularly love this about myself, in part because I recognize that reticence is kind of boring—it’s predictable and easy and obvious (and something I inherited from my dad).
I think that’s why I like a Big Party. When throwing a Big Party, I get to occupy the role of Host—we’re checking the celebration box, we’re honoring the thing, we’re participating in ceremony—but I have a job to do. Fun is had, drinks are drunk, dances are danced, and at the end of the night I get to pick up the detritus of the fun and think, “I think they had a good time.” And that brings me joy.
So! Rebel is turning seven and we’re throwing a Big Party. To celebrate the late nights that turned into early mornings, the friends we’ve made, the proposals we’ve hosted, the romances we’ve witnessed, the babies we’ve held, the dogs we’ve pet, the awards we’ve won, the teams we’ve fostered, the people we’ve inspired, the plants we’ve kept alive (how?), the neon, the box towers, the beef jerky, the mulled wine, the Bonillas (RIP), the community action, the boundaries broken, the pivots, the progress, the lessons—and yes, the wine.
Join us on October 4th from 4PM ‘til close—our pals at Gray’s Hall are flipping smash burgers on the patio, we’ll be doling out caviar, and you can have a spin on the Champagne ice luge (after 7 years in this business, you’d better believe I’m getting a fucking Champagne ice luge). We’ll also have plenty of extraordinary wines by the glass, of course, which I’ll be bouncing around and pouring with absolutely no regard for financial solvency.
Tickets aren’t required, but they do help us plan and they’re just $10—they get you a caviar bump or a Champagne luge moment, whatever you prefer. You can get yours here, and I hope you will!
If you can’t make it, just know that we’re so happy to be here, serving you, teaching you, befriending you, and—if we’re doing it right—creating space for celebration, every day.
Thanks for riding the ride with me.
XOXO,
Lauren
P.S. I popped our October class schedule up, too—there are some gems this month, and I hope to see you! (Can’t end on a purely sentimental note, what is wrong with me.)
